World Tour Council meets in Lausanne
Lausanne, Switzerland, November 30, 2013 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Council completed its annual meeting at the FIVB head office in Lausanne, Switzerland on Saturday.
The FIVB President Dr. Ary Graça F° opened the meeting, which featured the promoters of the FIVB World Tour events, by stressing how far beach volleyball has come to its successful position today and what the exciting future holds.
“Beach volleyball is very important. In 1988 we started with the first World Championship in 1998 in Brazil. We did it every year until 1993, when the-then IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch visited and was so impressed, beach volleyball was accepted into the Olympic Games in 1996.
The proposals from the World Tour Council - which is presided by FIVB Executive Board Member in charge of Beach Volleyball Vicente Araujo - including the calendar for 2014, will be put forward to the FIVB Executive Committee, which meets in Lausanne on December 15.
The next FIVB meeting is the FIVB World League Council on Sunday.
