Brazil secure South American Underage Girls Volleyball Championship title

In the definitive set, the Brazilian girls added to their own offensive, to win the match and their second consecutive title

Popayan, Colombia, November 14, 2013 – Brazil once again claimed gold at the second edition of the South American Underage Girls Volleyball Championship, securing their title obtained at the first edition of the championship in 2011.

With a 3-2 (16-25, 25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9) victory over Argentina in the final, Brazil emerged victorious in the fie-day tournament, which included eight countries participating in 38 matches.

Peru defeated Chile to win the bronze medal, a great accomplishment for the youngest official grass-root volleyball team.

In the final match, Brazil and Argentina played with intensity and emotion. Argentina won the first set, 25-16, but Brazil started the second set will full concentration and engagement, in attempts to stop their rival offense from putting pressure on them with serves and blocks. Brazil's efforts paid off, as they closed the second set 25-18 to tie the match at 1-1.

Brazil continued with their powerful blocking to gain control and win the third set, however, Argentina came back to win the fourth set and force the match into a tie-break set.

In the definitive set, the Brazilian girls added to their own offensive, to win the match and their second consecutive title.

The Bronze Medal was won by Peru, which won the silver medal two years ago in Uruguay, and finished with a record win-loss 7-2 in the championship. Although the team felt bitter their defeat against Argentina, the girls coached by Juan Diego Garcia overcame their defeat and got revenge against Chile with a sweep, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21). With the help of Maricarmen Guerrero and Nicole Abreu and the defensive player Valentina Carrasco, the new Peruvian team won third place.
