Injuries affect Germany, Brazil to prepare for USA

German setter Denise Imoudu during the match against Brazil.

Mexicali, Mexico, October 8, 2013 - Germany struggled against Brazil due to injuries and were forced to change their captain a couple of times, but expect to have Geerties back in Wednesday to play against Cuba.

Saskia Radzuweit, captain of Germany: Congratulations to Brazil. They had a good match with a good strategy, We have many problems when passing the ball. Brazil could block very well and we could not work on the attack.

Ellen Braga, captain of Brazil: Our team played really well on defense. We knew how to manage the tempo and also blocked very well.

Jens Tietbohl, coach of Germany: Brazil had a good match. This was very difficult for us due to injuries. We could not play with our outside hitter Katharina Schwabe and had a lot of problems as we could not spike in the first two sets to make points. Jennifer Geerties is also injuried but she is expected to play tomorrow.

Claudio Lopes Pinheiro, Coach of Brazil: We prepared ourselves very well for this match. We knew we were going to face a very strong team like Germany. We set our defense strategy as well as the service and block and a good tactical discipline and to go on in the competition.
