Four Asian teams qualify for 2014 World Championships

 
Korea celebrates a win at Asian Men’s Final Qualification Tournament, booking ticke to FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2014.
 
Lausanne, Switzerland, September 6, 2013 – The lineups for the FIVB Volleyball World Championships 2014 are closer to being set, with Australia and Korea securing a spot in the men’s tournament, and Japan and Thailand booking a ticket for the women’s competition, during an action-packed weekend.

Asian Men’s Final Qualification Tournament

On Sunday, the Australian and Korean men’s volleyball teams clinched their victories in Pool A and Pool B of the Asian Men’s final qualification round for the World Championships, respectively, allowing them to play at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, which will take place in Poland from September 3 to 21, 2014

Australia clinched a perfect record with a straight sets win over Kuwait and Thailand, dropping just one set for the entire weekend. Korea also secured their ticket after defeating Japan 3-0.

The Pool B matches are still to take place, with Iran (host), Pakistan, Indonesia and Bahrain competing September 11 to 13, and China (host), India, Chinese Taipei and Saudi Arabia battling for their ticket from September 20 to 22.

In the Asian Men’s Final Qualification Tournament, the 16 teams are split into four pools of four teams. Only the top ranked team in each pool will win a place at the 2014 FIVB World Championship.

Asian Women’s Final Qualification Tournament

On Saturday, Thailand’s and Japan’s women both booked tickets to the FIVB World Championship 2014, with straight set wins against their third rivals in Pool A’s Asian Women’s Final Qualification Tournament for FIVB World Championships 2014.

Two teams from Pool B – composed of China (host), Korea, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, India – will fight for their FIVB World Championships ticket September 27 to October 1 in China.

In the Asian Women’s Final Qualification Tournament, the 10 teams are divided into two pools of five teams. The two best-ranked teams in each pool (total four teams) will advance to the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships 2014, which will be held from September 23 to October 12, 2014 in Italy.

2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship

Along with the World Championship qualification tournaments, Germany and Russia made  their dreams come true by winning Wednesday’s quarterfinals at 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship for women, the first of four continental championships in September where the winners qualify for the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Grand Champions Cup and a chance to go to the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship.

The competition continues on Friday with the four best team – Russia v Serbia and Germany v Belgium – battling for the medals.

The winner of the CEV Volleyball European Championship will qualify for the 2013 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup featuring a total of six teams per gender with the hosts Japan being joined by the continental winners from Asia, Europe, NORCECA and South America with an additional country selected by the FIVB.

The two best-ranked teams of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Women will qualify for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship.

 

2014 FIVB Women’s World Championships

Thailand, Japan and hosts Italy have secured their place in the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championships, thus far.

The qualification process for the FIVB Women’s World Championship continues across the four other confederations with continental qualification tournaments. South America will be the first confederation to confirm teams at the quadrennial tournament via its continental championship in September.

Europe is the only other confederation to offer tickets (2) to the FIVB Volleyball World Championships via their continental championships.

NORCECA

The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) will be the last confederation to qualify all their teams for the 2014 Women’s FIVB World Championships. The final round of the qualification tournaments will occur from May 21 to June 30, where five teams will qualify. The last team will qualify during the NORCECA Continental Playoff, from July 2-7.

ASIA

Thailand and Japan are now qualified for the 2014 Women’s FIVB World Championships, with their Pool A wins this week. China, Korea, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, India will fight for the final two spots at Pool B of the tournament, which takes place Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 in China.  In the Asian Women’s Final Qualification Tournament, the 10 teams are divided into two pools of five teams. The two best ranked teams in each pool (total four teams) will advance to the 2014 FIVB World Championships.

AFRICA

Africa will begin its second round of qualifications in October, although the teams that will advance to the 2014 FIVB World Championships won’t be known until after the confederation’s final round in January 2014.

EUROPE

Aside from the two countries qualifying through the 2013 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship, and host country Italy, the seven remaining spots for the 2014 FIVB World Championships won’t be known until the final round of confederation qualifiers in early January 2014.

SOUTH AMERICA

South American teams will play in one deciding tournament (Sept. 11-15), where the winner will qualify for both the World Grand Championship Cup and the 2014 FIVB World Championships. The winner of the Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV) Championship in October will also qualify for the FIVB World Championships.

 

2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships

Finals hosts Poland, three-time defending champions Brazil, Australia and Korea are confirmed for the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships, thus far.

NORCECA

The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) will be the last confederation to qualify all their teams for the 2014 Men’s FIVB World Championships. The third round of the qualification tournaments will occur from May 21 to June 30, where the winners from each of the four Pools will qualify for the FIVB World Championships. The four silver-medal winners will then compete in the NORCECA Continental Cup Playoff from July 9 to 14 in hopes of securing the final FIVB World Championship spot.

ASIA

Australian (Pool A) and Korean (Pool B) qualified for the FIVB World Championships this weekend. The winners of Pool C (Sept. 20-22) and Pool D (Sept. 4-8) will be the last two teams to qualify for the FIVB World Championships.

AFRICA

African teams will have their chance to qualify for the FIVB World Championships during their qualification tournaments, which resume in October. The second round of tournaments will take place in October and November, and the final round takes place in January 2014. The three Pool winners of the third round will move on to the FIVB World Championships.

SOUTH AMERICA

South American men have one more qualification tournament for the 2014 FIVB World Championships than the women. South America has already held the first two rounds of its qualifying tournaments, in which Brazil and Argentina have qualified. Brazil qualified by winning the South America Continental Championship on August 12. The winner of the third round of qualifiers (Sept. 11-15) will join Brazil and Argentina at the FIVB World Championships.

EUROPE

Two countries will qualify through the 2013 CEV Men’s Volleyball European Championship. The five pool winners and the best second placed team from the third round of qualifiers (Jan. 3-5) will also qualify for the FIVB World Championships. Host county Poland will fill the final spot.
