Korea wins first match on day two of Asian Men’s Qualification Tournament

Korea beat New Zealand 3-0

Komaki, Japan, September 6, 2013 – Korea clinched their first victory with a three-set win (25-16, 25-9, 25-11) against New Zealand on the second day of Pool D competition at the Asian Men’s Final Qualification Tournament for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

It was a tough game for New Zealand as they made many errors in challenging Korea’s powerful and fast serves. Sunsoo Han and Mingyu Lee set the ball well for Korea. Korea’s top scorer Jeonghwan Kim got 12 points, while Charles Stewart, a top scorer from New Zealand, got only 6 points.

Korea’s captain, Kyoungmin Ha expressed his satisfied with their performance following the match.

“I’m glad to win this game,” Ha said. “We were all well-concentrated on the game. Our team has many young players. (Compared to the former team which has many experienced players.) This team also has good techniques and high motivation for winning like before. We expect to have an exciting match with Japan on the final day.”
