Park Volley tournament held in Beijing

Players from the local Beijing team, the army volleyball team and some former national players also participated in the event.

Beijing, China, August 17, 2013 - The Chinese Volleyball Association organised a seven-day ‘Park Volley’ tournament, from August 8 to 14, at the Beijing Olympic Park to help promote volleyball among young people.

During the first four days of the tournament 600 players comprising 50 teams from universities, middle schools and amateur volleyball clubs took part in the competition. On the last three days of the tournament more than 300 volleyball fans turned out to enjoy the fun.

Pan Zhichen, Director of the Chinese Volleyball Administration (the governing body of Chinese Volleyball and Beach Volleyball), stressed the value of volleyball not just as a competitive sport but also as a popular mass sport.

‘Park Volleyball’ has no age or gender distinction, with the emphasis on participation rather than competition. The rules of ‘Park Volley’ are also simple, which means that there are less technical demands on the players. The Chinese Volleyball Association is working hard to develop ‘Park Volley’ among the local population especially among young people.
