Poland's Skowronska-Dolata - a force to reckon with

Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata has already beaten last year's World Grand Prix record of 30 points in a match in the first weekend of the 2013 season.

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 6, 2013 - Only one weekend into the 2013 World Grand Prix Preliminary Round and a high scoring record has already been set.

In last weekend’s game between Poland and Russia, Poland’s
Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata was top scorer of the match with 41 points, beating Thailand’s Sittirak Onuma’s score of 30 points in a match, achieved during last year’s edition of the World Grand Prix.

Poland assistant coach Maciej Kosmol was full of praise for the performance of captain Skowronska-Dolata despite his team's 3-2 defeat against Russia in pool A of the 2013 World Grand Prix.

"She did an amazing match, with both great spiking and blocking. She was a true leader."

"We played our best game of the weekend. Russia is the current world champion and has a great team. We have to keep improving."

Despite an outstanding personal performance, Skowronska-Dolata said the result was far more important than her own numbers.

"I prefer to score five points and my team win the match than score 41 and lose the game."

"It was a good match. We can’t say that we didn’t fight for the victory. We did our best, and that’s what we’ll always do."

Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata, from Warsaw, was on Poland’s national team that took home the gold medal at the European Championship in 2003 and 2005. She was awarded Poland’s Golden Cross of Merit in 2005 for her sporting achievements and 'Best Scorer' at the 2007 World Cup.

Playing with Italian volleyball club Asystel Novara, Skowronska-Dolata won bronze at the 2007–08 CEV Champions League where she was also awarded 'Best Scorer'.

Katarzyna won the 2010 FIVB World Club Championship, playing with Turkish club Fenerbahce Acibadem where she also earned the 'Most Valuable Player' and the 'Best Scorer' awards. She also helped them to the bronze medal at the 2010–11 CEV Champions League.
