Campinas, Brazil, August 1, 2013 – Brazil coach José Roberto Guimarães (Zé Roberto) celebrated his 59th birthday with his team while preparing for the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix on Wednesday.

Zé Roberto enjoys the praises of his countrymen and the entire volleyball community as one of the most successful coaches in the sport – winning an Olympic gold medal in Barcelona 1992, in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 as a coach. His countless contributions to the glory of Brazilian Volleyball make him one of the most sought after coaches in the world.

Even with these achievements, Zé Roberto remains highly motivated in pursuing his fourth Olympic gold medal. More impressively, he gives equal importance to competitions such as the World Grand Prix where his team will be playing on home soil on the opening weekend.

Spending time with his players in training and competition even on his birthday is proof of his remarkable dedication to his work.

“I spend more birthdays with my players than with my own family,” Zé Roberto said. “All major championships are held in July, so I am used to it. It is always good to be with them.”

The Brazilian coach expects tough games this week in Campinas but is confident that his team will match up well against the other teams.

“My team will fight hard,” Zé Roberto stated. “We have a strong team and we have proven that with good results earlier this year. We know that Pool A has good teams and we really need to prepare for them.”

With so many things to think about to prepare his team in competition, Zé Roberto had only one wish on his birthday.

“A win against Poland on Friday will be a good gift,” he said.
