Belgrade, Serbia, July 16, 2013 – During the month of July the men`s national volleyball teams of Serbia and Italy had the opportunity to visit an orphanage – the ‘Children’s Village’ – in Sremska Kamenica, Serbia.

Present during the visit were Mrs. MIlena Vasic Stupar, (Director of the Children`s Village), Mr. Milos Vucevic (Lord Mayor of Novi Sad) and Mr. Slobodan Milosevic, (Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia) and Mr. Predrag Svilar (Member of the City Council in charge for Youth and Sports).

The FIVB officials who refereed the Serbia-Italy matches were also part of the delegation and included, Mr. Klaus Fezer,  Mr. Gennadiy Kondakov  (Ukraine), Mr. Martin Hudik  (Czech Republic) and Mr. Andjelko Popovic (Serbia).

Klaus Fezer, FIVB Supervisor said, “It is a great moment because our sport showed not only its sportive side, but also its social engagement. For me this is very familiar because my club and I are supporting children in Sao Paulo, and I can imagine how it is for the kids here.”

“Serbia is proud of the Children` s Village in Novi Sad,” said Milos Vucevic, Lord Mayor of Novi Sad. “It is a well known institution. The Volleyball Federation of Serbia offered to help and we immediately agreed. We are among friends, among great athletes, in a healthy environment and I thank them all for being here and caring.”

Milena Vasic Stupar, Director of the Children’s Village enthused, “Today is a great day for our children. They are always happy to receive guests, and especially now when all these volleyball stars came to us. So, the kids were rushing to take pictures with them and it was very nice. We made them very happy.”

“It is yet another proof that we are one great family,” said Slobodan Milosevic, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia. “It is not usual to do this on a game day, but our friends from Italy accepted the invitation and we thank them. It is important to be humane,  to bring joy and happiness to our children. I am very thankful to Mr. Lord Mayor who accepted our proposal and now we are here. Once again we demonstrated that Volleyball Connects!”
