Mozambique and Botswana lead in Pool J African qualifiers for 2014 World Champs
Maputo, Mozambique, July 4, 2013 – The Mozambique and the Botswana men’s teams have continued their winning rhythm at the Pool J matches of the African Qualification Tournament for the 2014 FIVB Men's World Championship held in Maputo, Mozambique on Thursday. Botswana’s winning streak crossed over into the women’s qualifiers tournament where the national team continued to forge ahead in the competition.
In the men’s competition Mozambique, supported by home
crowd, flew past Swaziland 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-17) to improve their win-loss
ratio to 2-0, while Swaziland dropped to 0-2. Botswana also trounced Lesotho
3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) to improve its score to 2-0 while the losers dropped
to 0-2. Mozambique face Botswana on Saturday in the final match, while
Swaziland meet Lesotho for the bronze medal match of this four national
The top three teams in Pool J will proceed to the zonal phase of the qualifications to be held next October and
In Pool B matches held in Cape Verde, the hosts provided an excellent spectacle for the home crowd at the men's team secured the first victory in the opening day of qualifiying matches held at Pavihao Vana Dwart Hall in Praia, Cape Verde on Thursday. The host team beat Sierra Leone 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-20). Favourites Senegal will face Sierra Leone in the second day of the competition on Friday.
The top two teams in Pool B will proceed to the zonal phase to be held in October and November, 2013.
