Women lead off as FIVB’s premier beach volleyball event starts Monday

 
A warm welcome to the 100,000 fans expected through the gates at Stare Jablonki
 
Stare Jablonki, Poland, June 30, 2013 – All eyes will be on the Polish lakeside venue of Stare Jablonki when the curtain opens on the 19th edition - ninth in its current format - of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships on Monday.

The best of the best of international beach volleyball will take centre stage over seven days culminating in the finals for women on Saturday and Sunday for men.

The FIVB’s premier beach volleyball event, which takes place every two years, starts with the women’s competition, with opening matches across four of the five courts starting at 09:45. Pool play for women will run from Monday until Wednesday before the knockout phase starts on Thursday while the men’s pool play starts Tuesday with the Round of 32 getting underway on Friday.

A total of 48 teams per gender from 31 different countries will play for $1m in prize money. A total of 24 nations are represented in the women’s draw and 22 in the men’s with the likes of Brazil, USA, the Netherlands and Germany boasting four teams in each of the women’s and men’s competitions while Thailand, Paraguay and Vanuatu will make their World Championship debuts.

Host broadcasters TVP will provide cutting edge technology to bring the experience of Stare Jablonki to the living rooms of millions around the world. With live matches on centre court and further coverage on their subsidiary channel TVP Sport, the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 will not only enrapture the expected crowd of more than 100,000 over the seven days, including the 9,000 capacity at centre court but also the millions of fans around the world watching either on television or being streamed live on FIVB Web TV.
