Power Cup finishes on a high note

A total of 650 volunteers, from local sports clubs in Mikkeli, who helped with the general organisation of the tournament.
Mikkeli, Finland, June 17, 2013 - Nearly 7,000 young volleyball players took part in the 29th edition of the annual Power Cup tournament in Mikkeli, Finland. The tournament – one of the largest mass volley festivals in the world – saw the participation of 828 teams including 47 from Estonia and Russia.

With beautiful weather over the four days of competition, around 5,200 matches were played on 261 outdoor volleyball courts constructed on sand and grass. Accommodation for the participants was provided by the local schools.

As the organisers of the Power Cup showed, the tournament was not only about volleyball. At the opening ceremony, which took place in the Mikkeli market square, Finnish rap-artist Aste provided the entertainment. There were also beach volley exhibition matches played by some of the best Finnish players. The closing party included music performed by Finnish artist Redrama and DJ Preal.
