Africa organizers and dates confirmed for 2014 World Championship qualifiers
Cairo, Egypt, June 11, 2013 - The African Volleyball Confederation "CAVB" has confirmed the organizers and final dates of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championships sub zonal phase qualification process for both men and women categories.
The sub zonal phase will be hosted during the month of July in 14 different countries including four countries who will organise a CAVB competition for the first time in history, namely Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Chad and Malawi. The first stage of the FIVB Volleyball World Championships qualification process for Africa features 10 preliminary groups for both men and women's categories.
Algeria hosts Men's Group A qualification July 27 to 31, and Tunisia hosts Women's Group A July 17 to 22. Cape Verde organizes Men's Group B (Combined with Group C) from July 1 to 7 while Senegal will hosts a women's event from July 17 to 22.
For Group F (combined with G) Chad will be a first time organizer when they host the men's competition from July 3 to 9 while Gabon will host a women's tournament from July 15 to 22.
Uganda and Kenya receive both men and women Group H tournaments on July 23 to 28. Rwanda hosts Group I men July 23 to 29, while the host of the women's tournament will be decided later.
Mozambique will be the site of both the men's and women's Group J competitions from July 2 to 7 and Malawi will do the same for both men and women Group K from July 22 to 27.
For Pool I, men's and women's tournaments will be staged in the Seychelles Islands after more than 10 years to receive the Indian Ocean Islands of Zone 7 from July 24 to 29.
The sub zonal phase will qualify 30 men and 29 women teams to the zonal phase which is scheduled to be held in October and November 2013 after being re divided into seven pools.
Again the zonal phase of the men's competition will qualify the top 12 teams where they will be joined by the top three African teams in the FIVB ranking to make a total of 15 teams who will play the finals in January 2014 after being divided into three final pools. The winners of each of the final pools will secure their tickets to the 2014 Men's World Championship in Poland.
The qualified 12 women's teams from the zonal phase will be also joined by the top two teams in the last FIVB World Ranking to make a total of 14 teams. The qualifiers to the final phase will be divided into two pools where the winners of each pool clinch the two continental tickets to Italy 2014.
