New entry process for FIVB World Tour and Open events

The new positioning of teams in the Main Draw pools applies to all FIVB World Tour and Open events with the exception of the FIVB World Championships

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 10, 2013 – The FIVB has modified the entry process for the FIVB World Tour and Open events starting from the Rome Grand Slam following feedback from athletes. The change sees the National Federation ranking use only the points of players who have played in any of the first three FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour or Open events or registered in The Hague Grand Slam.

This new calculation process sees the likes of the Latvia men’s team move from ninth to fifth (from The Hague entry list to Rome) and Italy men from 14th to ninth while the women’s ranking sees Brazil move from 10th to fourth.

The other change to the entry process sees that once the positions of each country in the tournament are determined, teams will be positioned in the Main Draw and Qualification based on the teams entry points, not National Federation position (the National Federation ranking only determines whether a country enters the tournament). The number of teams participating in the Qualification Tournament will be limited to 24 places from Rome onwards.

The positioning of each of the teams in the Main Draw pools of all FIVB World Tour (with the exception of the FIVB World Championships) and Open events will be determined following the Technical Meeting on the eve of the tournament.

After the technical meeting of the Grand Slam in The Hague a minor adjustment of the entry list for Rome may occur due to the teams/athletes really taking part to the event and affecting the National Federation Ranking.
