Myslowice set to make beach volleyball history again

Myslowice, Poland, May 20, 2013 – From June 6 to 9 this year all eyes will be on Myslowice as the Polish city gears up to host beach volleyball’s U23 World Championship. The world’s best players in this age category will be competing for the top prize and giving fans a sporting spectacle to remember.

Myslowice has firmly established itself on the beach volleyball map and will be hosting a FIVB age-group World Championships for a third time after successfully hosting the U19 and U21 World Championships respectively in 2006 and 2007.  It also hosted stops of the FIVB World Tour - the first World Tour competition was a single-gender women’s tournament in 2008, as was the 2011 event. Then in 2009, 2010 and 2012 it was the men who took centre stage.

Players know that Myslowice holds itself to high organisational standards and the facilities on offer are always of top quality. “We love playing in Myslowice,” said Pedro Cunha after the final match at last year’s Myslowice Open.

As always the fans come in droves, not just for the action on the sand, but also for the great atmosphere, which is rarely dampened even in bad weather. The atmosphere created by supporters is part and parcel of the history of the tournament.

As a major enhancement to the FIVB beach volleyball calendar, the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships - has been added to provide another opportunity for players to participate in an international tournament with the goal of reducing the gap between age-group and senior level competition.
