Mayagüez leads 2-0 Puerto Rico Final Series
Corozal, Puerto Rico, May 5, 2013 – The Mayagüez Indians took a command of 2-0 in the final series of the Women’s Superior Volleyball League of Puerto Rico by defeating the Corozal Pinkin 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25 - 21, 25-19) before a packed house at Corozal’s Carmen Zoraida Figueroa Gym.
The U.S. Shonda Cole scored 21 points to lead the offense for the Indians, followed by Puerto Rican Yarimar Rosa with 15 points. American Danielle Scott-Arruda and local Sarai Alvarez had 13 apiece.
For the Corozal's squad, American Kim Willoughby had 17 points and Dominicans Prisilla Rivera and Gina Mambrú each contributed 16 in the losing cause.
In the first match of the best-of-seven series, Mayagüez won also 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22) at home.
Cole and Scott-Arruda led the score charts with 21 and 19 respectively while Rosa and Alvarez added 16 and 10. For Corozal, Willoughby finished with 19 while Rivera and Mambru added 18 and 16 respectively.
