Miao Zhihong and Yan Jianming confirmed as China's beach volleyball coaches
At the conference, China's National Volleyball Administrative Center, the governing body for China's volleyball and beach volleyball, also revealed the national beach volleyball team’s aim for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games — a medal for the women’s team and an entry ticket for men’s team.
Miao Zhihong, born in Zhejiang Province in September 1966, was the coach of Chinese beach volleyball team in the past two Olympic Games quadrennials. Under his leadership, Tian Jia/Wang Jieand Xue Chen/Zhang Xi won the silver and bronze medals respectively at the Beijing Olympic Games, while the latter duo, only ranked the fourth surprisingly after starting as favorites at the London Olympics.
Yan Jianming, born in Fujian Province in 1961, led the Chinese men’s beach volleyball team to ninth place at the Beijing Olympic Games.
Miao Zhihong and Yan Jianming will be the coaches of the Chinese women’s and men’s beach volleyball team respectively instead of the existence of a general coach.
“Though we lack good and young athletes with potential, we still have to fight to accomplish our goal in the next four-year period,” Miao Zhihong said. “The aim of the Chinese women’s beach volleyball team is to clinch the title in 2014 Incheon Asian Games and a medal in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.”
