RJX beat Sada Cruzeiro to win the Final of Brazil's Men's Superliga
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 14, 2013 – RJX pulled the rug from under Sada Cruzeiro to take the title at the Final of the Brazilian Men’s Superliga on Sunday. RJX defeated Sada Cruizeiro 3-1 (15-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-14) at Rio’s Maracanazinho at a Final attended by 11,000 people.
RJX’s Theo Lopes scored the highest number of points in the game with 19 hits while team-mate Thiago Alves was voted the best player of the match and bagged the VivaVolei trophy.
Marcelo Fronckowiak, RJX coach, praised his team’s ability to work collectively saying, “Today it was crucial to keep a level head after the first set. The change started to happen in the second set when the entire team started to get into the flow and the game just went from there.”
Sada Cruzeiro’s coach, Marcelo Medez congratulated the winning team saying, “We started the game very well but RJX efficiently reversed the situation after the first set of the game. We just have to work harder to make a stronger come back next year.”
RJX will no doubt be looking for a repeat performance at the South American Club Championships, which is a qualifying event for the FIVB Club World Championships that will take place from October 15 to 20 in Brazil.
