Lausanne, Switzerland, April 15, 2013 – The team positions for the first Grand Slam of the year – the Shanghai Grand Slam in China – are confirmed following the passing of the deadline for federations to make any changes to their respective teams.

Federations had until the end of Monday (Lausanne time) to confirm which of their teams would fill their respective national federation positions in the Shanghai Grand Slam Main Draw and Qualification tournaments, which will take place from April 30 to May 5.

Leading the way in the men’s competition are world champions and Olympic silver medallists Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego in Position 1 followed by the new American combination Sean Rosenthal and Phil Dalhausser while the second USA spot in position three is filled by Nicholas Lucena and Matthew Fuerbringer in place of Jacob Gibb and Casey Patterson who fill that position for the Fuzhou Open.

The women's competition is the same as Fuzhou Open sees with last year’s World Tour runners up Chen Xue and Xi Zhang of China in Position 1 followed by Brazil’s new pairing Maria Antonelli and Agatha Bednarczuk and Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel of the Netherlands in Position 2 and 3 respectively.

The actually seeding for the tournament will be updated following the Technical Meeting on the eve of the tournament. The seeding will be based on the sum of the individual rankings taking into consideration the status as at -21 days.

Due to the limited number of reserve teams, the FIVB has decided to offer such teams (after country quota) the chance to take part in the Qualification tournament for the Shanghai Grand Slam.

The Shanghai Grand Slam is the first of 10 Grand Slams which make up the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour which also includes the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland from July 1 to 7.

The distribution of national federation vacancies in the Main Draw, Qualification and Reserve lists are based on federation ranking points which take into consideration the best six-out- of-the-last-eight results dating back 365 days on a player by player basis for the respective country.
