Unilever win Brazil's Superliga Final
São Paulo, April 7, 2013 – Unilever made a spectacular comeback from two sets down in the Brazilian Women’s Superliga Final to win the crown for the eighth time on Sunday. The team from Rio beat out rivals and FIVB club world champions Sollys/Nestlé (SP) 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15, 15-9) in a match that lasted 2 hours and 11 minutes at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in São Paulo.
Brazilian star Natalia and Canadian Sarah Pavan top scored for Unilever with 22 points each while Sollys / Nestle’s Sheilla recorded 17. Unilever’s setter Fofão, received the VivaVôlei trophy after the game for her courageous play having played on in spite of an injury in her right calf.
"The team deserves to be congratulated. They worked for it and, even with the absence of a major player as Logan Tom, the team prevailed. Sometimes people think too much about the individual point of view but we think as a team. They worked hard and deserved to win."
Libero Fabi said that she was proud to have been part of the match on Sunday. "The tickets sold out very quickly and it is very nice to see volleyball getting some recognition. This was a fantastic game and we ensured this title win with a lot of strength and passion. Our team deserves to be congratulated. We have a fighting spirit I think that our passion worked well together with our tactics.”
