Canada end two-week training camp in France with win over Narbonne

Canada start their 2013 World League campaign on May 31

Montpellier, France, March 31, 2013 – The Canadian men’s volleyball team ended a successful two-week training tour in France with a five-set (19-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 15-10) victory over French Pro A League team Narbonne on Saturday.

Nicholas Hoag led Canada’s attack with 17 points while Louis-Pierre Mainville added 16 and Rudy Verhoeff scored 14.

Graham Vigrass, playing for the first time in six weeks after recovering from an injury, had a strong match with 12 points.

“We had a tough start to the match but the guys got back to the basics of our system and held the rhythm until the end,” said coach Vincent Pichette. “We are particularly proud of how the players fought back after being down two sets.”

The Canadians return to their training base in Gatineau on Sunday and resume training on April 8 for the national team selection camp in May.

Canada will play their first game in this year's FIVB World League on home soil on May 31.

“This was a very enriching experience and we thank the teams for their warm hospitality,” said Pichette. “They allowed us to face them in matches at an important point in their seasons. We also thank the staff at the National Training Centre in Montpellier for this tour.”

Team Canada arrived here March 17 for a two-week mix of training and matches.
