Algerian volleyball champions M.B.Bejaia are strong favourites to win the title in Madagascar

Algiers, Algeria, March 30, 2013 – Algerian clubs NB Bejaia and GS Petroliers will represent their country at the upcoming Women's African Club Championship to be held in Antananarivo, Madagascar, from April 4 to 14.

NB Bejaia finished the season as champions, while GS Petroliers were runners-up. Bejaia will be guided by coach Halim Hani and led on court by national team star Narimane Madani, who has played more than 100 times for Algeria.

The experienced Salim Achouri will coach GS Petroliers, with the help of the national team captain for 10 years, Fatma Zohra Oukazi.

More than 22 teams have been registered to participate in the prestigious event, which acts as a qualifier for October’s FIVB Club World Championship.

Among other contenders for the title are Kenyan champions Prisons, who represented Africa in the last three editions of the World Championship, and their compatriots Pipeline, who have the record number of African titles (seven).

Five-time champions Ahly of Egypt are also heavily favoured with their new line-up aimed at regaining the cup they last won in 2009.

Algeria's Patrollers will also be strong contenders, having won the cup twice in 1988 and 2002.

Following their strong performance over the last few years, Rwandan champions APR and Cameroon clubs are also expected to go through to the finals of the competition.
