100-day countdown starts for 27th Summer Universiade

Kazan is making the final preparations for this year's Universiade
Lausanne, Switzerland, March 28, 2013 – Tuesday marked the start of the 100-day countdown to the 27th Summer Universiade, which will take place in Kazan, Russia, from July 6 to 17.

Volleyball is one of the 13 compulsory sports at the Universiade, while beach volleyball, which made its Universiade debut in Shenzhen in 2011, is one of the 14 optional sports.

Volleyball will take place at nine different venues in the city, including the Saint Petersburg Volleyball Centre, which is the home of the Zenit men’s team and Dinamo Kazan women’s team. The Centre hosted the CEV Champions League matches in the 2011-12 season.

Beach volleyball will take place at the Kazanka Beach Volleyball Centre on the banks of the Kazanka River, a beautiful venue that features a view of the Kazan Kremlin.

The volleyball competition will run from July 6 to 16, while the beach volleyball tournament will take place from July 8 to 13.

Twenty-three men’s teams and 16 women’s teams will feature in the volleyball competition, with 31 mens’ teams and 27 women’s teams in beach volleyball.
