Egypt secure place at FIVB Girls' U18 World Championships
Cairo, Egypt, March 27, 2013 – Hosts Egypt sealed a place in this year’s FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship after beating Rwanda 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-17) on the second day of the 2013 Girls Youth (Under-18) African Nations Championship in Cairo on Tuesday.
The Egyptians, who beat Tunisia in straight sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-16) on Monday’s opening day, improved their win-loss ratio to 2-0 – guaranteeing themselves one of the three FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship tickets on offer at the four-team tournament - even if they lose their last match against Algeria on Wednesday at the Army Club Hall.
Tunisia recovered from their first day defeat to overcome Algeria 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 14-25, 25-14) in 85 minutes. Tunisia’s 1-1 win-loss ratio puts them in third place behind Algeria (also 1-1), who beat Rwanda in four sets on the opening day, only on points ratio difference.
The third and last day of the 2013 Girls Youth (Under-18) African Nations Championship on Wednesday will see Egypt play Algeria and Tunisia take on win-less Rwanda with Algeria, Tunisia and Rwanda all still in contention for the last two Africa tickets to the FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship to be held from July 26 to August 4 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
