In October, Colombia qualified for the FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship – to be held in the Czech Republic in June – by finishing third in the South American Championship.
It is the first time Colombia have qualified for a World Championship. Brazil and Peru also qualified, meaning South America will send three teams to the Championship for the first time.
A group of 13 players are preparing for the competition. "We are carrying out biomedical tests and hope to be ready for each phase of the competition" Guevara said.
Supported by the Colombian Volleyball Federation, the team has access to top-level fitness and technical facilities and will play a number of warm-up games against other national teams to ensure the best preparation for the global tournament.
The first test for the squad will be the Under-20 Pan American Cup (March 16-24) in Cuba.
"The concentration of the team will be focused until the day of the trip to Costa Rica,” Guevara pointed out. “After the competition finishes, our preparations will continue until the World Championship in June. We want to have the group at their peak for the World Championship."
