Zaksa Kedzierzyn–Kozle victors in 2013 Polish Cup Final
The beginning of the match belonged to Rzeszow. They blocked well and led effective counterattacks. Asseco Resovia led 2-0, 9-6 and then 16-11 after the second technical time-out in the first set, winning 25-19.
Zaksa had started Sunday’s match without Antonin Rouzier (he was replaced by Dominik Witczak), but in the second set coach Daniel Castellani returned him to the game and Zaksa’s team play immediately started to improve. They strengthened service and finally began to use counterattacks. Zaksa won second set and equalized the battle 1-1.
The beginning of third set saw good blocking and perfect service from the Rzeszow team. Andrzej Kowal’s team achieved easy 8-3 advantage on the first technical timeout. Zaksa woke up on time, however, and pulled back to 17-18. Zaksa won 25-21.
The fourth set was full of twists and turns, with Zaksa playing well off the serve. Resovia failed on reception and attack but still didn’t lose faith in winning. They came to 22-22, but Nowakowski missed his service and Kosok failed on the attack. Zaksa defeated Resovia 25-23 to seal the match 3-1.
“We lost the match of the Polish Cup Final. We regret that very much,” said Resovia Rzeszow captain Olieg Achrem. “Zaksa played better and won the Cup. Congratulations to them. Now we have to concentrate on the league.”
“We are very happy to win the Polish Cup. Except for the first set, we played a very good match,” said Pawel Zagumny, Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle captain. “Despite the health problems of Antonin Rouzier, he managed to play till the end of the competition. We hope this injury is not serious. Today we are really very happy. We hope that the trophy will give us wings to fight for the Polish championship.”
