Lausanne, Switzerland, December 20, 2012 – Beach volleyball has been named as one of the highlights of the 2012 London Olympic Games by Olympic.org.

The IOC website conducted a Facebook survey of Olympic fans to find out their favourite moments from the London Games.

More than 40,000 fans voted in the poll, with Usain Bolt’s defence of his 100-metre and 200-metre sprint titles the No. 1 pick.

Other top picks included Michael Phelps raising his Olympic medal tally to 22, Mo Farah doing the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters double and the USA winning basketball gold.

Coming in at No. 10 was beach volleyball under the headline: “Beach volleyball lights up Horse Guards Parade.”

The IOC stated: “Few venues in London caught the imagination quite like the historic Horse Guards Parade, which was transformed into a high-energy beach volleyball arena for the Games.”

The report concluded: “Seats at the iconic venue really were the hottest tickets in town.”
