Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, November 4, 2012 – Hosts Dominican Republic will play neighbors Haiti on Sunday evening in the match for the top place of the NORCECA-C First Round Tournament of the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championship with both teams secured of spots in next year’s second stage.
The Dominican side advanced to the gold medal match by defeating U.S. Virgin Islands in straight-sets (25-9, 25-12, 25-10) on Sunday morning finishing with a 3-0 win-loss mark. Haiti concluded the preliminary phase with a 2-1 mark.
Guadeloupe (1-2) take on U.S. Virgin Islands (0-2) for third place and the last remaining ticket to the second round of qualification tournaments towards Poland 2014 within NORCECA Confederation.
Emmanuel Lara had five blocks among his 10 points while Luis Adames also had 10 for the Dominican Republic. Elnis Palomino served six aces and finished with 7 points. The winners registered 12 aces to none from the defeated side and dominated 9-5 in the blocking category.
Haiti grabbed a spot in next qualifying phase with a 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15) victory over Guadeloupe in the first match of the day.
Frantz Joseph, captain of Haiti, led his side with 15 points, including three blocks while Emmanuel Mabou added 14 with four aces.
Xavier Galipo was the best scorer of Guadeloupe with 13 points while Ludovic Baltyde and Alexandre Watson each had 9 points.
