Brazil to host FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final in January

Japan beat Australia in the Asia Men's Continental Cup Final

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 1, 2012 – The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) is pleased to announce that the inaugural $300,000 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final will take place in Brazil from January 9 to 13, 2013. The host city will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final, which will determine the champion country from the Continental Cup, will feature 10 countries per gender represented by one team each. Prize money of $150,000 per gender is on offer to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final participants.

“This is a momentous occasion for the FIVB and international beach volleyball,” FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said. “This is the first time the FIVB has staged the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final, and to have it hosted in one of the most popular beach volleyball countries in the world just adds weight to the event. We are looking forward to a great spectacle with the top beach volleyball countries in attendance.”

The 10 countries will include the winners of each of the Continental Cup Finals and the national federations who qualified a maximum two teams at the 2012 Olympic Games via the Olympic rankings*. If the 10 vacancies were not filled with these criteria, the best country on the 2012 Olympic Games rankings not already qualified will participate.

Therefore, the following countries have been confirmed as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final participants:

* Countries who qualified a maximum two teams at the 2012 Olympic Games via the Olympic rankings withdrew from the Continental Cup prior to the final, eliminating any chance to contest their respective Continental Cup Final
