Dubai, UAE, October 26, 2012 – A total of 35 participants from three countries gathered in Dubai for a course aimed at giving school teachers training on how best to introduce volleyball to their students.
The course included 15 theoretical lessons and 25 practical sessions, run under the guidance of German course director Dr Christian Kroeger from October 10 to 14. With special effort being made to attract female teachers to the course, 21 of the 35 people taking part were women.
"It is absolutely necessary to promote more such courses," said Kroeger. "The teachers are – next to the parents – the most important intersection for the development of sports interests in general and for volleyball in particular."
The initiative, which was a collaboration between the UAE Ministry of Education, the UAE Volleyball Association and the Leaders Qualification Centre, achieved all its goals. The new drill book, in particular, attracted interest.
Afterwards it was recommended that a beach volleyball course and level I coaches’ course should be held in Dubai.
