Mibikuri Primary receives mini-volleyball equipment from the BVA

Rambarran said he had been motivated to donate equipment after seeing two volleyball posts planted in the school’s playfield

Corentyne, Guyana, September 13, 2012 – The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA), in keeping with its mandate to promote and develop volleyball in Berbice, presented two Mikasa children’s volleyballs and a FIVB development net to the Mibikuri Primary School in Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, on September 10.

The equipment was given to the school’s headmistress, Bonita Persaud, by BVA president Gregory Rambarran. Persaud said her students would make good use of the donation and revealed plans to build a hard court in the school compound. The Mibikuri Primary School has 195 students, and the compound also houses a nursery and the Black Bush Secondary School.

The equipment was provided thanks to support from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF). The aim is to provide primary school children between the ages of nine and 13 opportunities to enjoy the sport, learn new skills, acquire habits of self-discipline and cooperation, make new friends, compete fairly, and have fun in a motivating atmosphere.
