Club World Championships draw completed

 
Last year's men's winners Trentino and bronze medallists Zenit Kazan have been drawn in seperate pools for the second year in a row
 

Doha, Qatar, September 2, 2012 – The draw for the FIVB Club World Championships 2012 was completed in Doha on Sunday with the defending three-time men's champions Trentino Diatec (ITA) drawn in Pool A against Al-Rayyan (Qatar), Tiger N. Leon (MEX) and a South America representative (still to be determined) while a women’s title holders Rabita Baku (AZE) will play Bohai Bank W. (CHN) and the South America representative (still to be determined).

results of the draw, conducted in the presence of FIVB 2nd executive vice president Theofanis Tsiokris, for the tournament - which will be held October 13 to 19 - are the following:


Men
Pool A
Trentino Diatec (ITA), Tiger N. Leon (MEX), Al-Rayyan (Qatar) and a South America representative (still to be determined at the South American Club Championship to be held from September 3 to 9 in Linares, Chilel)
Pool B
Zenit Kazan (RUS), PGE Skra Belchatow (POL) , AL-Arabi (QAT) and Zamalek (EGY)

Women
Pool C
Rabita Baku (AZE), Bohai Bank (CHN) and a South America representative (still to be determined at the South American Club Championship to be held from September 3 to 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil)
Pool D
Fenerbahce Universal (TUR), Kenya Prisons (KEN) and Lancheras de C. (PUR)


The women’s tournament will consist of two rounds with 10 matches in total – six in the preliminary round and four in the final. The teams will play a round robin tournament to determine their ranking, and the third-ranked teams in each preliminary pool will be eliminated – both will be classified as fifth-place finishers.

The team ranked first in each pool after the preliminary round will play against the team ranked second in the other pool in the semifinals. The losers of those matches will then play for third and fourth places, while the winners play for first and second.

The men’s tournament will be 16 matches, also organised into two rounds. The preliminary round will account for 12 matches, and the final will have four.

Again, the teams will play a round robin tournament to determine the ranking, and the teams ranked third and fourth in each preliminary pool will be eliminated and all classified as fifth-place finishers.

As in the women’s competition, the team ranked first in each pool after the preliminary round will play against the team ranked second in the other pool in the semifinals. The losers of those semifinal matches will play for third and fourth places while the winners play for first and second.
