Rotterdam, the Netherlands, August 24, 2012 – The Netherlands coach Edwin Benn is looking for an improved performance from his team in Saturday’s second and final World League 2013 first round qualification match against the Dominican Republic despite winning the first match on Friday in straight sets.
Speaking in the official press conference after the first match Benne said: "We did not play at our best. Tomorrow we hope to play better and win again.”
The Netherlands coach Edwin Benne: I am satisfied with the result, but it was a difficult match against a tough opponent. The effect we wanted to sort with the changes we made, did not score like we wished for. We did not play at our best. Tomorrow we hope to play better and win again.
The Netherlands captain Rob Bontje: We did not play our best match today. It felt good to be back between the lines after a long revalidation process. Our matches get more important during time, I’m happy to be part of the team again.
Dominican Republic coach Osiel Vázquez: I am disappointed of course. Tomorrow we have to win in straight sets to have a chance to qualify, so we will do everything we can to get that result. We need to be more concentrated and play better as a team tomorrow.
Dominican Republic player Fransisco Alberto Abreu Lopeze: This is really difficult for the team, we completely lost our concentration in the closing phase, whereas the Dutch made almost no mistake at the end of the match. I think the difference is that the Netherlands have played more matches the past few weeks.
