Plavins continues blistering month with Open Russian Cup

Zelenogradsk, Russia, August 22, 2012 – London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist and Stare Jablonki champion Martins Plavins from Latvia will continue his sizzling summer of beach volleyball when he participates in the first major tournament of the Russian beach volleyball season - the Open Russian Cup - which runs from Thursday to Sunday in Zelenogradsk.
Plavins, who won Latvia's first ever volleyball Olympic medal in London with Janis Smedins and followed that up immediately with their first ever FIVB SWATCH World Tour crown at the Stare Jablonki Grand Slam in Poland last week, will play in Zelenogradsk with Yury Bogatov.
Other names from the recent London Olympics that are participating are Russia's Anastasia Vasina, Anna Vozakova, Evgenia Ukolova, Ekaterina Khomyakova, Sergey Prokopiev and Konstantin Semenov while FIVB junior world champions Eve Dumbauskayte and Monika Povilaytite from Lithuania will be in attendence.
The Open Russian Cup is also the final tournament of the Eastern Europe Volleyball Zonal Association tour.
In total there are 24 men’s and women’s teams competing in Zelenogradsk. The first pool games of the tournament start August 23.
