London, Great Britain, August 5, 2012 – “We played our practice match against Great Britain a year ago. And we were very impressed about the improvement they have made today, especially with their spikes and attacking combinations” said Japan coach Masayoshi Manabe after the 3-0 win claimed by his players over Team GB.
“This has been a team we’ve tried to emulate over the last five years. Maybe, one day we can. I’d like to congratulate my players for winning a game at the Olympics. No one can take that away. I walk away feeling very proud of these players and looking forward to success at the European Championships” said Team GB coach Audrey Cooper.
“It’s been unforgettable” stressed Ciara Michel about her Olympic experience. “We’ve been playing against the best teams in the world. It’s been a phenomenal experience. My family and friends, including those from Australia, being here was great. We had fun and we’re still smiling. As for the remainder of the tournament, I will throw my support behind Japan. They play with such style and grace”.
“Our coach has done a phenomenal job; she has made sure that we kept going. The only wish was that we had more competitive matches, but we were restricted by our funding. USA will probably win gold, with Turkey maybe in the top three” concluded libero Maria Bertelli.
