London, Great Britain, July 31, 2012 – Team GB captain Ben Pipes was evidently upset as his side suffered a 0-3 defeat to Australia while LOCOG chairman Sebastian Coe was also in attendance at Earls Court. “Australia played really strong today and we tried as hard as we can”. As for the next matches of the group, Pipes says: “We are going into ever game with thoughts and dreams of having a chance”. His teammate Mark McGivern was also disappointed: “We did not execute what we had been working on in training. Our coach told us how to beat them but it did not happen for us”.
Australia spiker Igor Yudin: “We were expecting a bit more fight. At times it seemed a bit too easy, but we had to work hard for it and it’s a good result. The atmosphere at Earls Court is good as it gets for volleyball. Playing in front of a crowd like this is a real pleasure. As for the next matches of the group, we are still trying to improve a few things. We still need to work on a few things over the next few days and then we will come out firing”.
