USA overcome defending Olympic champions Brazil
Jordan Larson, Player of USA: There were some ups and downs, but we played really well. We had a tough start, but we found our rhythm. Brazil is always battle, but we came strong for the win.
There are lots of different styles being played at the tournament and everyone has a different method to their madness and plays to different strengths. The Russians are big and tall and very powerful whereas teams like Korea are very clever and run combos (combinations). They're both difficult to play against but it's probably more difficult to play against big sides like Russia.
Logan Tom, Player of USA: As a team we played well and improved from the first match. Brazil are good technically and are fiery, so when they got ahead it was hard to catch up.
On scoring the winning point:
It felt like we won. We give the same concentration to the first point to the last point.
Fabiana Claudino, Captain of Brazil: It was only in the second set that we started to understand that USA was playing to our weakest points. We didn't do a good match. We had a lot of errors since the first set. We really need to avoid doing the same errors and we need to improve our defence because we know that we can do much better. "We know that USA is very strong and we cannot play like we did today. We need to improve all our fundamentals.
Paula Pequeno, Player of Brazil: I think it's a team that deserves a lot of respect, but they have a lot of weak points that we have to know how to take advantage of. They put all of the responsibility on top of us and just defended. We need to have more patience and better ourselves a lot.
