Sofia, Bulgaria - June 29th, 2012 - Portugal played well but still is a victim of their own mistakes according to coach Flavio Gulinelli as they went down to hosts Bulgaria in Pool A of the 2012 FIVB Volleyball World League in Sofia on Friday.
Nayden Naydenov, Bulgaria coach: “I am satisfied with the result. I used players that have not played a lot during the last two weeks. We made a lot of mistakes in the first set, but we still need time in order to achieve the good condition we want and improve our game.”
Vladimir Nikolov, Bulgaria captain: “The Portuguese team played well. Our team needed more playing time so to achieve our best form for the finals next week. We are satisfied and we hope we will improve our game with every match. We are looking forward to the finals.”
Flavio Gulinelli, Portugal coach: “We played a good match. The start was exactly how we wanted it to be which means that we have done our job well in the locker room. We made a lot of mistakes and we still have problems in the break point phase without attack. But our play is improving and our hope to erase the zero from the result box is alive.”
Flavio Cruz, Portugal captain: “We had a good start and we have managed to put pressure on the Bulgarian team during the first set. The level of concentration in our team was better regarding our previous matches. After the first set, we made a lot of unforced errors. After all, we achieved good results apart from the attack which was because of the very good Bulgarian block. These are not the results we wanted, but there are improvements in the way we play. We wish good luck to the Bulgarian team next week.”
