“We were strong like Vikings” says Horrem

The Norwegian delegation celebrates its hard-fought 3-2 win over the Netherlands which saw them book a place at the London 2012 Olympic Games

Alanya, Turkey, June 24, 2012 – They needed nerves of steel in Sunday’s CEV Men’s Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final but Tarjei Skarlund, Martin Spinnangr, Iver Horrem secured Norway a berth for the London 2012 Olympic Games after clinching a thrilling five-match win over the Netherlands.

“We were strong like Vikings,” Horrem said following the epic duel. “A big heart, strong muscles and nerves of steel were our formula for success. Let’s rock the castle now; we deserve a big party tonight.”

“Now we need a break. We won’t touch any balls over the next days,” Skarlund added. “Then we will sit down with our coaches and the federation and discuss the further steps. We will think about the best preparation for London.”

“We are exhausted, but happy,” explained Geir Eithun. “We fought like a team, everyone made a great job. It’s an amazing feeling to book a ticket for the Olympic Games.”

“You need to be tough in this game,” Spinnangr admitted. “The Netherlands led with 2-1 matches and one set to zero in the fourth encounter, but we came back strongly. This gives us even more confidence for the Olympics.”
