Turkey qualify for first ever World Grand Prix Finals

Turkey celebrate as they book their ticket to Ningbo, China for the 2012 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 23, 2012 – Turkey booked their ticket to the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals for the first time on Saturday after clinching victory on the penultimate day of the Preliminary Round.

Turkey sent hosts Japan crashing out of the tournament with a 3-1 win in Osaka while the Thais reached their second Finals after beating Serbia in four sets in front of a jubilant home crowd.

However, there was heartbreak for FIVB Women’s World Cup winners Italy as they moved out of the reckoning for qualification despite victory over Chinese Taipei.

Elsewhere Germany beat Korea, USA and China both made it eight wins from eight with victories over Argentina and Cuba respectively, Poland defeated the Dominican Republic and Brazil swept past Puerto Rico.
