Defending champs book ticket to Ningbo as final World Grand Prix Preliminary Round begins

USA receive as they book their ticket to Ningbo, China for the Finals with victory over Serbia on Friday

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 22, 2012 – Defending FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix champions USA booked their place in the 2012 Finals on Friday with victory over Serbia while Turkey moved to within two points of reaching their first ever Finals as the third weekend of the Preliminary Round began.

USA’s straight-sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) win over Serbia means they will have the chance to contest for their third consecutive crown in Ningbo, China from June 27 to July 1.

Meanwhile, Turkey beat Korea, China defeated Puerto Rico, Italy held off the Dominican Republic, Germany claimed victory over Japan, Thailand disposed of Argentina, Brazil edged Cuba and Poland beat Chinese Taipei.

“I haven't yet thought about the Ningbo Finals although this win has assured us a ticket,” USA coach Hugh McCutcheon said. “We still have to play the remaining two matches."
