Iranian youngster makes impressive World Cup debut

Iran's Pourya Fayazi after winning as the Most Impressive Player of the match
Nagoya, Japan, November 22, 2011 – Iran’s Pourya Fayazi Damnabi made an impressive debut at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup against European champions Serbia.

Fayazi represented Iran at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Junior World Championship in Brazil and served as the captain at the FIVB Volleyball Boy’s World Championship in Argentina.

The 18-year old came in as a substitute in the second set and stayed on as a starter until the deciding set. Fayazi nailed the final point on his attack and posted an 11-point output that was key to Iran’s surprise upset of the stronger Serbian side.

Teammate Mehdi Mahdavi and coach Julio Velasco are satisfied with Fayazi’s debut. His performance in his first match did not only make his team proud but also justified his bright future.
