Senegal, Algeria and Egypt continue winning ways at Africa Nations Champs

Egypt sealed their second victory at the African Nations Chapionship on Friday with a win over Nigeria

Nairobi, Kenya, August 19, 2011- Senegal, Egypt and Algeria all sealed wins at the  Women’s CAVB Africa Cup of Nations as the tournament entered its third day in Nairobi, Kenya on Friday.

Egypt defeated Nigeria 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-17) in a Pool A match to exert pressure on hosts Kenya who were on a rest day.

Senegal achieved their second victory following a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-16) against Rwanda in Pool B match to bring their win-loss record to 2-1. Rwanda's record dropped further to 0-2.

Algeria sealed their second victory as they beat Botswana 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 26-24) in Pool B.

Senegal used hard spikes and the experience of Mame Ndiaye, Binetou Sow and Diallo Adama to rock the weak defense of Rwandese players.

Rwanda team was made up mainly of players from Groupe Scolarie Indangaburezi High School who won the East Africa Secondary Schools Games in Nakuru last year.

They include Regine Izabayo, who is highly rated as one of the most promising players on the continent, Charlotte Nzayisenga, Ernestine Akimanizaya and Denyse Mutatsimpundu.

The tournament enters its fourth day on Satruday with a number of crucial matches, the highlight being Kenya's clash with Cameroon. Kenya need to win to enhance chances of topping their pool which also features rivals Egypt. Cameroon will be out of contention if they lose against the hosts.

The programme of the day starts with a match of the underdogs involving Botswana and Rwanda. Tunisia play neighbors Algeria in a Pool B encounter which is expected to be hotly contested.
