Kenya, Algeria, Tunisia pick up wins in African Nations Championship

Hosts Kenya beat Nigeria in straight sets to set off on the right foot

 Nairobi, Kenya, August 17, 2011 - Hosts Kenya, defending champions Algeria and Tunisia all began their 2011 Women’s African Nations Championship campaigns with wins in Nairobi on Wednesday as the tournament kicked off.

Six-times African champions Kenya claimed a straight sets win (25-11, 25- 15, 25-15) over Nigeria in Pool A as Tunisia saw off Botswana 3-1 (25-18, 25-12, 18-25, 25-18) and Algeria beat Senegal 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) in Pool B.

Nine teams are participating in the prestigious African championship and competing for the continental berth at the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup to be held in Japan later this year.

Pool A:
Kenya v Nigeria 3-0 (25-11, 25- 15, 25-15)
Pool B: Algeria v Senegal 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22)
           Tunisia v Botswana 3-1 (25-18, 25-12, 18-25, 25-18)

Pool A: Egypt v Cameroon
Pool B: Botswana v Algeria
           Rwanda v Senegal
