Lausanne, Switzerland, April 8, 2011 – The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Board of Administration confirmed on Friday that Poland would host the ninth edition of the premier beach volleyball event, the World Championships, due to be held in 2013.
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships were first held in Los Angeles, USA in 1997 and this year brings the eighth edition, coming up in Rome, Italy from June 13-19.
Poland has an extensive history of hosting volleyball events and will stage the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League Finals from July 6-10 in Gdansk-Sopot, as well as the 2014 Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
"With the standing of volleyball in Poland at the moment at an extremely high level we are confident the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2013 will be an outstanding success," FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour council president and board member Dr Ary Graça said. "We are looking forward to carrying on the outstanding tradition of world-class beach volleyball events in Poland in 2013."
"We are grateful to the FIVB for the trust and confidence they have shown in our ability to host the premier FIVB beach volleyball property," Polish Volleyball Federation president and Executive Committee co-opted member Mr Miroslaw Przedpelski said.
"Volleyball in Poland is at an all-time high and with three key international events in four years, volleyball fans in Poland and right around the world are going to have a fantastic experience," he added.
