Dominican Republic block Peru en route to the title
Lima, Peru, October 12, 2010 – The Dominican Republic defeated Peru 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17) to win the 1st Unique Women's Cup in front of more than 6,000 spectators at the Eduardo Dibos Coliseum in Lima last Sunday.

In the other match, Puerto Rico scored a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-12) victory over Trinidad and Tobago to earn the bronze medal.

The Dominican Republic, Peru and Puerto Rico are currently finalising their preparations before travelling to Japan to take part in the FIVB Women's World Championship from October 29-November 14.

Altagracia Mambrú and Lisvel Eve topped the scoring for Dominican Republic with 15 and 13 points respectively while Peru's Jessenia Uceda registered 14 points.

In the play-off for third, Puerto Rico were particularly effective from the service line scoring 16 aces against a poor Trinidad and Tobago defence. Aury Cruz and Karina Ocasio each registered five aces and Wilnelia González compiled three.
