Academica do Mindeol, Atletico Volley take Cape Verde titles

 
The volleyball season in Cape Verde ended with titles for Academica do Mindeol and Atletico Volley
Lausanne, Switzerland, September 2, 2014 – The volleyball season in Cape Verde concluded at the end of August with the National Playoffs in Mindelo City on São Vicente Island.

In the women’s final, Academica do Mindelo beat Paulense Volley 3-1 (31-33, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18) after a marathon first set, while Atletico Volley overcame Academica PN, also 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18). Both champions were from São Vicente Island.

While the women’s finalists both breezed through their semifinals in straight sets, the men had a tougher time. Academica PN dropped the first set against Progresso 17-25 before taking the following sets 30-28, 25-14, 25-17. In the other semifinal Atletico were pushed to the limit over five sets, including a long fifth set as they beat Interclube 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 25-23. 

The season began in October 2013.

In recent years, the FIVB has conducted several courses in Cape Verde, which is a group of islands situated 500 km off the west coast of Africa.
