Curtain falls on 33rd edition of Summer Camp in Istres

Partipants in the third session of the 2014 edition of the Summer Camp in Istres

Istres, France, August 19, 2014 - As the curtain fell on the last sessions of the Summer Camp in Istres, over 220 youngsters were able to look back at three intense weeks of volleyball, during which they worked on and improved their skills.

Gilbert Louis, President of Istres Ouest Provence Volley, closed the 33rd edition of the event. He thanked Christophe Meneau for his role supervising technical aspects of the event, and Director Valerie Louis for her role as animator and organiser.

The Summer Camps, which were instigated by Guy Digiantommaso 32 years ago, grow every year. Today, three camps gather young volleyball players from France, USA, UK, Belgium, Switzerland and Turkey, and recent editions have been operating at maximum capacity. The sunny location of Istres, which is just 15kms from the Mediterranean, also contributes to the popularity of the venue.

The organising team worked hard to offer a range of activities, including bowling, beach walks, swimming sessions, kayaking and games of pétanque at Lake Olivier. Two sessions of beach volleyball were also on each camp’s programme.

The closing ceremony ended with Gilbert Louis wishing good luck to Istres Ouest Provence Volley's professional women's team for the season ahead, as coach Jean-Pierre Staelens prepares his players for another season in France's top league.
