Danes hope for fairy tale in Andersen’s home town
The 2nd Round Pool A of the 2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup will take place in Odense, the third largest city in Denmark, the birthplace of the Danish master of fairy tales Hans Christian Andersen. It is also the city where the Danish men wrote a little piece of volleyball history last September.
The two women’s duos from the Danish beach volleyball national team, Line Trans Hansen/Helle Sondergard and Cecilie Kollner Olsen/Eva Mielskov Bang, will take on Hungary, Slovenia, Iceland and Luxembourg hoping to improve their chances of qualifying for the Olympic games.
”We are very happy to organize the Continental Cup in Denmark. Last year we proved that we can execute huge and spectacular events here in Denmark. Now we are looking forward to proving we can do the same with beach volleyball and the Continental Cup, though on a smaller scale,” says Peter Morell, Beach Volleyball Director at the Danish Volleyball Federation.
Odense Beachvolleyklub will be the centre of attention when the top players from the five nations involved meet to get a step closer to continental honours and to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Alongside the women’s event in Odense, the men’s national teams of Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Iceland and Luxembourg will also be in Continental Cup action. Click here for more detailed information on the competition.
