South American Beach Tour: Colombia and Brazil celebrate in Playa Blanca
The Galindo sisters beat Venezuelan pair Olaya Pazo and Norisbeth Agudo in three sets 2-1 (15-21, 24-22, 15-10) and - despite the poor weather - in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
In the men's competition, Brazilians Maurcio Araujo and Saymon Santos Barbosa played the final match against the other pair from Brazil, Bruno de Paula and Hevaldo Sabino, also winning in three sets 2-1 (21-18, 23-25, 15-13).
Liliane Maestrini and Elize Maia of Brazil were the winners of the women's bronze medal, after victory against Virginia Zonta and Julieta Puntin from Argentina 2-1 (20-22, 21-8, 15-3).
In the men's competition, the bronze-medal match saw a duel between two Venezuelan pairs, with the Venezuela 2 team Vicente Salazar and Jonathan Golindano beating Venezuela 1 Ronal Fayola and Carlos Rangel 2-0 (21-11, 22-20).
Claudia Galindo (Colombia) was chosen as the best player of the women's tournament, while Brazil's Marcio Araujo received the men's award.
Brazil took the season's overall titles by dominating the South American rankings in both the men's and women's competitions.
"It is a great happiness to give to our country and this town such a joy, such an important title," said Claudia Galindo. "Success is for all of us and Colombia," Andrea Galindo added.
Marcio Araujo said: "I am very happy to have competed in the South American tour and having helped Brazil win the season title. For me it was very important to play to score points here so we can join the World Tour. We worked hard to become a good team and this is the result. I am very happy for the love that the people of Colombia gave us these days, it comforted us."
